Project Overview

When Hazel Green Elementary School needed a full exterior cleaning before the start of the new school year, PSI OFF Pressure Washing was brought in to handle the job. What we found was years of built-up grime — black concrete, algae spreading across multiple surfaces, oil and gum-stained sidewalks, and bug-encrusted entryways. It was a big job, and it took two full days to do it right.

The Scope of Work

Hazel Green Elementary is a busy school with heavy foot and vehicle traffic every single day. That kind of activity leaves its mark. Over the course of two days, our team cleaned the following areas:

• Sidewalks — covered in black staining, gum, and years of organic buildup
• Car line area — heavy oil staining and dark concrete from daily vehicle traffic

The Challenge

The condition of the surfaces when we arrived told the story of years without professional cleaning. The concrete had turned nearly black in high-traffic areas. Algae had spread across walkways, brick walls, and the overhead canopy structure. Gum was embedded into the sidewalk concrete at every entry point. Oil stains marked the car line area, and bugs had built up in the sheltered canopy overhead.

On top of the surface conditions, working on an active school campus meant being thorough and professional throughout — cleaning up as we went and leaving every area better than we found it.

Our Approach

A job this size and variety requires the right equipment and the right technique for each surface. Our team used professional pressure washing on the concrete sidewalks, car line, and curbing to blast out embedded gum, oil, and deep staining. For the brick walls and canopy structure, we used lower pressure and appropriate cleaning solutions to remove algae and staining without damaging the surfaces.

We also handle concrete cleaning with surface cleaners that cover large areas efficiently and evenly — critical on a job with this much square footage of flat concrete.

The Results

After two days on site, Hazel Green Elementary looked like a different school. The sidewalks went from near-black to bright, clean concrete. The car line area was free of oil staining. The canopy structure was clean and clear. Every entryway was fresh and welcoming. The brick walls were algae-free and restored to their original color.

The school was ready to welcome students back for the new year looking its absolute best.
