Weather Radar Dome Soft Washing – Baron Weather, Huntsville, AL

Project Overview

Some jobs require more than a hose and a ladder. When Baron Weather needed their weather radar dome cleaned in Huntsville's Cummings Research Park, PSI OFF brought in a man lift and partially disassembled the unit to reach every surface of the tower-mounted structure.

This wasn't a routine wash — it was a precision job on equipment the city depends on.

What We Cleaned

• Radar dome/globe structure — the full protective dome housing Baron Weather's radar unit
• Tower-mounted unit — accessed via man lift at height
• Disassembled upper dome sections — partially taken apart to reach areas otherwise unreachable

The Challenge

Years of dirt and biological growth had built up across the dome's surface — buildup that isn't just a cosmetic issue on a piece of radar equipment. A dirty radome can interfere with signal accuracy, and Baron Weather's radar is part of what feeds accurate weather information to the city of Huntsville. Getting it clean mattered for more than curb appeal.

Our Approach

Reaching the dome meant bringing in a man lift to access the unit at height on its tower, and part of the structure had to be disassembled to expose the top of the dome for a full, even clean. Our team used soft washing methods across the surface — gentle enough not to risk damaging the sensitive equipment or housing, but effective enough to fully clear years of buildup. The project took a couple of days from start to finish.

The Results

The dome came away perfectly clean and shining white — a complete transformation from its dirt- and growth-covered state. More importantly, Baron Weather's radar equipment is now clear of the buildup that could have affected its accuracy, helping ensure Huntsville continues to get reliable weather data.
