Project Overview

Hospice Family Care's Westmill Drive location is a place where staff, patients' families, and visitors come and go every day, and the outdoor spaces around the building show it. Years of exposure had left the front entrance and the employee patio dull, stained, and covered in organic growth. PSI OFF was called in to bring them back.

When we finished, the difference was easy to see.

What We Cleaned

• Front entrance — the aggregate concrete walkways and approach to the main doors
• Employee patio — the full aggregate concrete patio surface
• Brick retaining walls — the planter and retaining walls around the entrance and patio

The Challenge

Surfaces that stay shaded and damp, as many do in North Alabama's humid climate, collect algae, mold, and mildew over time. Here, a long stretch without cleaning had left the aggregate concrete gray-green and the base of the brick walls dark with growth. Beyond looking tired, that buildup can make walking surfaces slick.

Our Approach

Different surfaces need different tools, so we matched the method to each one. We used soft washing to treat the organic growth without damaging the brick, and specialty pressure wands to lift the buildup out of the textured aggregate. This kind of concrete cleaning removes the growth itself rather than just rinsing the surface.

The Results

The patio and brick walls were restored to a clean, mold- and algae-free condition. The aggregate is bright again, the brick has its color back, and the spaces are inviting for staff and visitors to use.
